Audiences in Alexandria have the opportunity experience an evening of contemporary choral and orchestral music on October 15, 2026, when the Alexandria Choral Society’s Pro Coro joins the American Contemporary Classical Orchestra (ACCO) for Dreamweaver: A Festival of Wonder.
Alexandria Choral Society Season Opener: Dreamweaver
The concert opens ACCO’s new season with Dreamweaver, a work by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. Soprano Kelly Curtin will join the performers for a musical journey inspired by Draumkvedet, a medieval Norwegian folk poem. The story follows a man through thirteen days of sleep and a sequence of beautiful and frightening visions that ultimately turn toward redemption.
The concert description captures the work’s themes: “Echoing themes found in Dante’s Divine Comedy, the work explores self-discovery, mortality, and hope through soaring melodies, luminous harmonies, ingenious musical storytelling, and breathtaking orchestral colors.” Its journey through visions of danger and judgment also recalls the dark passage through sin and consequence in Dante’s Inferno, before turning toward hope.
World Premiere Compositions
The program also features the world premiere of a new composition by David Ibbett, Composer-in-Residence at the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and a new work by David Winkler, ACCO’s 2026–2027 Composer-in-Residence.
For Alexandria residents and visitors alike, the October 15 performance offers a chance to hear local choral talent alongside a contemporary orchestra and featured soloist.
